The CNMC released the billing report for the second quarter of 2024.

Spain.- The National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) shared its survey on the billing of e-commerce in Spain during the second quarter of 2024, demonstrating the significant role that gaming holds among Spanish consumers.

According to the latest e-commerce data available on the CNMCData portal, between April and June of 2024, the total e-commerce billing increased by 12.8 percent year-on-year to reach EUR 23.114 billion.

The total number of electronic transactions carried out during these three months reached 422 million, with travel agencies and tourism leading the ranking by business volume. For gambling, the second quarter of 2024 marked a slight decline in Spanish consumer preferences compared to the first quarter of the year. The activity dropped one place in this ranking and was positioned sixth with 4 percent of the business volume, close to the 4.3 percent obtained in the first three months of the year.

The gambling sector also decreased in terms of the percentage of transactions. During the first quarter of the year, the activity had been ranked number one in this section, capturing 7.2 percent of the operations. During the second quarter of the year, it was placed third, with 6.9 percent of the total.

One of the main reasons for this change is that the second quarter includes spring and the start of the summer season in Spain, causing other sectors such as restaurants and land passenger transport to grow.

Thus, the figures for the second quarter indicate that the gambling sector continues to enjoy good health and remains at the top of preferences. This is consistent with other statistics that reflect the good moment the industry is experiencing in Spain, for example, the state online gaming market report for the third quarter of 2024.

According to the General Directorate for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ), in those three months of the year, the GGR was EUR348.09m. This represents an increase of 0.49 percent compared to the previous quarter and 14.4 percent compared to the same quarter of 2023.
