Recently, Thai media reported a thrilling story about two Chinese tourists who almost fell into a human trafficking trap in Thailand.
The 421st Infantry Battalion of the Thai Manute Special Forces, while patrolling and monitoring near Phu Pha District in Tak Province, spotted two foreign men and took timely action, successfully averting a potential cross-border human trafficking incident.
It is understood that 27-year-old Wu Changqing and 36-year-old Zhu Chao are two Chinese citizens who entered Thailand through Suvarnabhumi International Airport on the morning of January 9, planning to travel to Chiang Mai.
The two then stayed at the Orchid Resort Hotel near the airport and agreed with a Thai chartered driver to go to Chiang Mai for 2000 Thai Baht.
However, at 10 a.m. on the 9th, the driver, driving a gray Mitsubishi Pajero, picked them up and took them to Phu Pha District in Tak Province.
The driver informed them that another vehicle would come to pick them up and take them to Myanmar across the border. At 6 p.m., after arranging everything, the driver said they needed to wait about 30 minutes.
While they were waiting, the Thai Manute Special Forces, during their patrol, spotted and questioned the two Chinese tourists. After investigation, the police confirmed that these two might have been targeted by a human trafficking group, as the area has natural passages into Myanmar.
The Thai police then took Wu Changqing and Zhu Chao to the Mae Sot Police Station in Tak Province for registration and arranged to safely send them back to their accommodation. The police also contacted their families to help arrange their return to China. This incident once again warns travelers to be vigilant and avoid falling into similar human trafficking scams.
