The Dutch gambling regulator has warned the operator of the freebitco.in platform that it could face an initial fine of €280,000 if it does not cease its illegal operations.
Kansspelautoriteit’s (KSA) imposition of a penalty payment order on the company FBC came after investigators at the regulator were able to create an account, make deposits and participate in illegal games of chance.
Freebitco.in and FBC do not have a licence to operate in the Netherlands, the KSA said.
The regulator has called on the company to “immediately stop” the illegal offer and ensure players are continually prevented from accessing it – or face a €280,000 fine.
This fine will increase to a maximum of €840,000 if the order is not complied with.
“The Netherlands has a regulated gambling market to better protect players. The KSA therefore takes tough action against illegal supply,” the watchdog said.
“With an order subject to penalty, illegal supply is often quickly stopped. Providers can also be fined for the period in which the illegal supply was available.”
