The publication aims to revalue the activity of turf and highlight the foundational relevance and value of the establishment as an emblematic place of the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires.
Argentina.- With the presence of provincial and municipal authorities, the presentation of the book "Hipódromo de La Plata, 140 years of history" took place in the Salón Pelusse of the same establishment, which was recently restored and where a photographic exhibition with part of the material from the book was installed.
The publication, of 132 pages, aims to revalue the activity of turf and highlight the relevance and foundational value of the local Racetrack as an emblematic place of the city of La Plata.
It is a testimonial document that covers from December 11, 1882, when Governor Dardo Rocha ordered its creation, to the present day. The book includes foundational photographic material and a textual narrative based on research and sources from the Historical Archive of the Province of Buenos Aires; the National Library Mariano Moreno and the General Archive of the Nation.
The head of the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) of the Province of Buenos Aires, Gonzalo Atanasof thanked the presence of the mayor of La Plata, Julio Alak, and stated that "the publication of this book is a collective project, which visually rescues the history of the Racetrack of our city". He added: "We have been working with the goal of recovering the Racetrack for all the people of La Plata. We believe that this space is a strategic piece in a more general framework of recovery of the city of La Plata and we want to be up to the circumstances accompanying Julio in the task of refounding the city in an orderly and planned manner."
For his part, the local mayor, Julio Alak, highlighted: "This is an iconic place, which is almost as old as our city and owes its existence to the initiative of our same founder, Governor Dardo Rocha."
"The presentation of this book, which is the result of a very careful work by the team that has been in its production, constitutes an opportunity and an invitation for all the people of La Plata to know a little about the history of the place, which is undoubtedly part of our heritage. And it has to make us all proud of La Plata," said the mayor.
For his part, the administrator of the Racetrack, Mariano Cowen, thanked "all the workers, whose silent and daily effort makes there be races and that the Racetrack is the iconic meeting place in the city, the place that La Plata needs and wants" and added "the photos of a book seem something static, however, behind each of the photos there is a story, there are years of work, there are grandparents, children, grandchildren and above all, there is continuity and passion."

Finally, Sebastián Tangorra, co-author of the publication, stated that "in times when algorithms and artificial intelligence rule, we set out to make a book, because we believe it is a tool that peoples have to value their history and identity."
"We believe that this is an opportune moment for the Hipódromo de La Plata to crystallize its historical richness, its vigorous present and project itself with great power into the future," added Tangorra.
