Starting this week, the Ministry of Finance will begin the final requirements phase of the certification process for betting companies that registered by August 20 to operate legally in Brazil. This information comes from the Secretary of Prizes and Bets, Regis Dudena, in an interview with JOTA. He added that the first list of authorized bets is expected to be announced in the second half of December.
In the interview, Regis Dudena also stated that the potential prohibition of using installment Pix for betting payments will be evaluated after the start of the regulated market, with the data that the department will have at hand.
According to the rules published in April, payments can only be made via Pix, transfer, and debit.
Another important point, Dudena assesses, is the decision of Minister Luiz Fux, from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), to preserve the current legislation and maintain legal security for companies.
In a monocratic judgment of the injunction in the action filed by the National Confederation of Commerce (CNC), the minister ordered the adoption of immediate measures that prohibit bets with resources from the Bolsa Família program, but did not suspend the norm. The decision was endorsed by the STF.
Finally, the secretary emphasized that the regulated betting market will require responsibility from the Central Bank and health sectors, regarding dependency on bets, and stated that the draft from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), which seeks to expand its regulatory power to include companies that offer digital infrastructure services, is welcome.
