The Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, has announced the financial results of the country's gambling industry for the third quarter of 2024.
For licensed gambling companies in Sweden, the total turnover for the third quarter reached SEK 6.66 billion (USD 610 million), a year-on-year decrease of 1.2%, and a decline of 3.4% compared to the second quarter of 2024.
On the other hand, community games and hall bingo have maintained very stable financial data over the past year, with a turnover of SEK 50 million, the same as in the third quarter of last year.
However, the turnover for national lotteries and slot machine games decreased by 2.7% to SEK 1.36 billion, while the turnover for public purpose games and national lotteries decreased by 0.6% to SEK 818 million.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, the Swedish government proposed the closure of Casino Cosmopol.
Land-based commercial gambling operations fell nearly 6%, with a turnover of SEK 63 million. However, Casino Cosmopol saw the largest decline, at 76.5%, with a turnover of SEK 31 million.
Similarly, the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, released its financial data for September 2024 last week, highlighting an overall expenditure decrease of 2.8% to DKK 553 million (USD 78.44 million), with online casinos accounting for 49% of the expenditure, while physical casinos only accounted for 5%.
