The CEO of H2 Group, Ueltom Lima, participated this Monday (11) in the Sport Integrity Forum 2024 of SIGA Latin America, being part of the panel 'Sports betting in Brazil: paths to integrity and efficient regulation'. At the event held at Morumbi Stadium, he emphasized the importance of regulating the activity in the country.
The panel "Sports betting in Brazil: paths to integrity and efficient regulation" also featured the integrity consultant of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), Paulo Schmitt, and the Undersecretary of Monitoring and Enforcement of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF), Fabio Macorin.
Since the beginning of its operations in 2022, H2bet has been working with the best market practices. For Ueltom Lima, "sporting integrity and responsible gaming are fundamental pillars".
“Those who are not involved in the market might think it would be better if it were not regulated and operated freely. But that is not true. Sporting integrity and responsible gaming are fundamental pillars for a mature, sustainable, and long-term market,” said Ueltom Lima.
During the panel, the CEO of H2 Group also mentioned that the sports betting market should be seen as entertainment, not a way for people to earn extra income.
“The lack of regulation allowed many people to sell the idea that one could make money from it. You have to think of it as having fun. Instead of going to the movies or out to dinner, you decided to gamble,” he said.
“And all this, within your financial reality. There is no strategy, no right way to know when you will win, and there were many people talking about this on the internet. From this perspective, regulation is essential to ensure that advertising makes it clear that it is about fun and entertainment, and that people do not misuse it,” concluded Ueltom Lima.
H2bet is on the list of fixed-odds betting sites that can operate in Brazil, according to the Ordinance of the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA-MF) No. 1.475/2024. The authorization obtained by H2bet also includes SeuBet, a company acquired by H2 Group in August.
