On October 21st local time, the Philippine National Police (PNP) released the latest news on the shooting incident at a hotpot restaurant in Makati.
The police stated that among the two suspects, one had already been blacklisted by the immigration bureau and had his passport cancelled, which means that this suspect is currently in an illegal residency status.
Police spokesperson Officer Jean Fajardo said at the press conference: "This suspect has been blacklisted. In fact, his passport had already been cancelled."
Fajardo added that this suspect had been involved in a car theft in the Philippines in 2022 and has "more criminal records" in China: "This suspect had participated in a car theft case in 2022 and was charged, but he was granted bail. According to the investigation, this suspect appears to have multiple criminal records in China as well."
According to previous news released by the police, the two suspects used the aliases "Zi An" and "Bao Long" (phonetic). There are various opinions online about the backgrounds of the two suspects, but the police have not commented on this.
Currently, the police have not clarified the motive for the crime, but the most likely motive is suspected to be related to a business dispute. Local officials mentioned that next to the building where the hotpot restaurant is located, there is a POGO building, which might also be related.
The police also released footage of the suspects before and after the shooting. In the footage, it can be seen that the victim seemed to have been drunk, falling off his chair before being shot. Before shooting the victim, the suspect also fired shots into the sky.
