
Caixa will be one of the main players in the betting market, according to the bank's president, Carlos Vieira. He believes that online betting houses do not compete with lotteries, and that the revenue from these new initiatives should be half of the collection from the draws. This information was spoken by Vieira at a press conference on Thursday (22).
Caixa requested authorization to operate with sports betting and online games in the Betting Management System of the Ministry of Finance's Prizes and Betting Secretariat. Vieira states that the betting market is expected to grow in the coming years, and therefore, Caixa wants to be present.
There is no competition with the lottery market
Today, Caixa has the constitutional monopoly of lottery games exploitation. "[Lotteries and bets] are not competitive markets. We have started to operate in a new market of games and bets. Speaking of strategy, we know it is a very large market and regulation will bring more formality to the market", said Luciola Vasconcelos, president of Loterias CAIXA.
Caixa is investing in the betting market as a whole. This includes lotteries, online betting, and other products. Vasconcelos says that there is not yet a large investment to start the operation with the bets, and that this value will come along with the start of the operation.
Caixa expects that online betting houses, as well as new fronts of Caixa, represent 50% of the current collection of traditional lotteries. The estimate is to reach this level when the segment is mature within the company.
“The market in Brazil tends to grow a lot in this segment and the bank wants to be present. Caixa will be one of the main players in this segment”, stated Carlos Vieira, president of Caixa.
Vieira says that games are linked to coexistence in society. According to the president, the emergence of bets created a new dynamic, and that there is no direct competition with Caixa's lotteries. According to the executive, these are different proposals within the universe of games.
Responsibility with the bettor
Lucíola Vasconcelos states that the company has responsible gaming certification and that they will continue to focus on the bettor. According to her, there will be conditions, alerts, and guidance for those who will play at Caixa's bet.
Entering the market of sports betting and online games will bring a new audience to Caixa. Today the consumer profile of the lotteries is people over 45 years old, while that of bets is Brazilians under 35 years old.
“We have an eye for an audience we do not operate with and also thinking about the continuity of the lotteries themselves. If we have a very strong operation in 45 plus, we have to look at another audience. The female audience is one that we also do not have as much operation as we would like, this is the perspective we are now taking”, stated Lucíola.
