From 1 January 2025, all gaming suppliers wishing to provide services to gambling operators licensed in Denmark must obtain a license from the Danish Gambling Authority.
Applications for these licenses will be accepted starting September 1, 2024.
To assist with this process, the Danish Gambling Authority has produced guidance material and made application forms available online.
Interested parties can find detailed information on the Danish Gambling Authority’s website in the “Game Providers” section.
The Danish Gambling Authority requires that game suppliers’ games, gaming platforms, business processes and systems must be tested and inspected by approved testing companies.
These tests must comply with the Danish Gambling Authority’s certification scheme before any games are made available to gambling operators.
A revised version of the certification scheme is currently under development and will clarify the respective responsibilities of operators and gaming suppliers. It is expected that this new scheme will be completed and open for consultation in mid-July 2024, and will be implemented on January 1, 2025.
Updated standard reports will also be available from this date.
Along with the introduction of the supplier license, the Danish Gambling Authority will launch a new portal for managing gaming certificates, called the “Gaming Register”.
The portal is scheduled to be operational from October 1, 2024, and gaming supplier applicants will receive login details to upload their information and gaming certificates as part of the application process.
It is important to note that existing game certificates and certifications under the current scheme will remain valid, with no need to re-certify games or systems that have already been tested and inspected.
However, compliance with the new certification scheme will become mandatory from 1 July 2025. We therefore encourage gaming suppliers and operators to adopt the updated scheme as soon as possible to ensure compliance.
