On August 12, the National Bureau of Investigation Southeast Mindanao Regional Office (NBI SEMRO) in Davao City, Buhangin District, raided a high-end residential area and dismantled an illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) den, arresting eight Chinese suspects and seizing multiple computers, laptops, and a large number of mobile phones.
According to NBI 11 Director Arcelito Albao, the operation was initiated following a report from the landlord who suspected suspicious activities by the tenants. After covert surveillance and verification, investigators confirmed that the house was being used as an illegal online gambling operation site.
On the day of the raid, agents stormed the residence on Gardenia Street in Montclair Highlands, with all suspects being Chinese nationals. The large amount of electronic equipment found at the scene was used to operate and maintain the gambling platform.
Authorities noted that the case not only involves illegal gambling but may also be linked to money laundering and other transnational crimes, with investigations still ongoing.
