Liverpool forward Diogo Jota dies in a car accident in Spain, aged only 28.

Diogo Jota, a forward for Liverpool Football Club and a Portuguese national team player, tragically died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday early morning, at the age of 28. The Spanish Civil Guard confirmed that the accident also claimed the life of his younger brother, Andre Silva, who was only 25 years old.

The incident occurred in the Zamora province in northwestern Spain. According to the local fire department, a car caught fire after an accident shortly after midnight, and two men were found dead at the scene. The police revealed that the car appeared to have veered off the road, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. An investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.

Spanish national television quoted firefighters saying that the vehicle quickly caught fire after the accident, and although rescue workers arrived promptly, both men were already deceased. The identities of the deceased were later confirmed to be Liverpool player Diogo Jota and his brother Andre.

Jota had just celebrated his wedding on June 28 and played a key role in Liverpool's victory in last season's Premier League, as well as winning the FA Cup and the League Cup with the team. He transferred to Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the Reds.

In addition to his club achievements, Jota was also a significant member of the Portuguese national team, playing in 49 international matches and winning the UEFA Nations League twice.

His brother, Andre Silva, played for Penafiel, a lower-tier Portuguese league team. Although not as internationally renowned as Jota, he had a stable career in his homeland.

The news of the accident has shocked and saddened the football communities in Portugal and England.
