A Filipino woman was nearly lured to Cambodia to engage in gambling fraud, but was successfully intercepted by the immigration bureau at the airport.

June 29, 2025 news, a 28-year-old Filipino woman was recently intercepted by immigration officers while attempting to travel to Hong Kong, after her true intentions were uncovered. Despite claiming to be traveling to Hong Kong Disneyland for tourism on June 23, her departure information had numerous discrepancies, raising suspicions among immigration staff.

Upon further questioning, the woman eventually admitted that she had contacted a Chinese recruiter via Telegram, planning to travel to Cambodia to join an online gambling operation similar to "POGO," with a promised monthly salary of $1,000. The immigration bureau immediately classified this case as a high-risk potential human trafficking incident.

Law enforcement believes that such opportunities for "high-paying overseas jobs" often conceal risks controlled by fraud groups, potentially becoming part of an international cybercrime network. The woman is now under the protection and placement of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Council (IACAT), and the case has moved into further investigation.

The Director of Immigration made a strong statement regarding the incident, describing it as a "combination of cyber fraud and human trafficking," and expressed special thanks to President Marcos for his ongoing attention to border security, providing strong support for the rapid response of frontline law enforcement units. The investigation into the Chinese recruiter is also underway.
