The DITO Telecom Tower was funded by China Telecom, originally known as the Mindanao Long Distance Telephone Company, which was nearly bankrupt before being saved by the telecom industry. However, once Duterte stepped down, Smart and Globe started to instigate issues against DITO, with the two local giants looking to split the market share. Ultimately, it's the Filipino people who suffer.
More ironically, the 5G spectrum currently used by these two companies still relies on the underlying technology provided by ZTE. This is typical of the Philippines: they use your technology and then stab you in the back, a classic ungrateful behavior.
