The Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand, Sasi Gan, recently reported that from January 1 to March 31, 2025, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, in collaboration with various departments, will continue to promote special rectification of cybercrime, focusing on cracking down on online gambling activities:
- A total of 29,185 gambling-related social accounts, web pages, and websites were shut down.
- Successfully arrested 4,627 individuals involved in these cases.
- Blocked nearly 200 popular gambling sites and their variants.
- Additionally, 118 websites are awaiting court decisions for banning.
Sasi Gan emphasized that online gambling not only leads to economic losses but also involves multiple risks such as personal privacy leakage and the spread of fraud. According to Thailand's Gambling Act, organizing, participating in, or promoting gambling activities are illegal, with penalties of up to three years in prison or a fine of 5,000 Thai Baht.
The government also calls on the public to actively report gambling-related content to maintain a healthy online ecosystem.
