The first trial of the Huashang Guo case in the Philippines took place, with the three main suspects appearing in court on April 28 to face charges. The Philippine Department of Justice formally charged the three with kidnapping for ransom and murder. The suspects are Richard Austria and Reymart Cartquist from the Philippines, and David Chen Liao from China.
During the trial, all three denied the charges and stated that they would submit a counter-affidavit at the next hearing on May 8 to formally refute the prosecution's allegations.
Additionally, the prosecution disclosed the names of six other individuals involved in the case for the first time during the trial, including Yang, Yuan, Guo, Ye, Lin, and Kelly. Currently, Yang and Yuan have been arrested and appeared in court, while the other four are reported as fugitives.
It is noteworthy that the suspects' lawyer also filed a countersuit against the prosecution during the trial, questioning the legality of the arrest and prosecution procedures.
The case is still under further review, and more details are expected to be released later.
