Philippine digital entertainment giant DigiPlus Interactive Corp delivered a steady and progressive report card for the fiscal year 2025—annual revenue of 84.2 billion pesos, a 12% increase year-over-year. However, more noteworthy than the figures themselves was the management's first decision upon receiving the annual report: not to hit the brakes, but to press on the gas. The company has officially started preparations to enter the Brazilian and South African markets, attempting to transplant its platform model, honed in Southeast Asia, to farther continents. With three product lines—BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone—running simultaneously, the company launched over 500 new games last year, and its self-developed live interactive products are being extensively deployed—there is absolutely no sign of "playing it safe." Chairman Eusebio H. Tanco has set his sights on "world-class technology and entertainment enterprise," a statement that is hardly modest, but the numbers indeed back him up.

Three consecutive years of climbing the Fortune list: not a burst, but steady stepping

This year's Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list saw DigiPlus ranked 215th, moving up 8 places from last year and making the list for the third consecutive year. A few places might not seem eye-catching, but given the intense competition in the Southeast Asian tech and entertainment sector, this "steady upward movement" actually carries more significance than a single-year surge. The Fortune list primarily ranks companies by annual revenue, covering economies like Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia. DigiPlus's continued rise also reflects the growing presence of Philippine online entertainment companies in the regional landscape, moving from "fringe players" to "regulars at the table."

Tanco publicly interprets three consecutive years on the list as a signal of the company's scale and operational maturity. The latter part of his statement is crucial—the next goal is not just to "grow big," but to move towards "world-class." This isn't a new claim; many Southeast Asian companies say this before going international, but DigiPlus's uniqueness lies in its proven "multi-platform + high-frequency updates + self-developed content" model in the Philippines.

Difficult to obtain a license in Brazil, tough to win customers in South Africa: going international is not copy-paste

Brazil and South Africa have been identified by DigiPlus as the next key overseas markets, a logical choice—both markets are seen as high-potential emerging markets in online gambling and digital entertainment. However, the challenges of setting up are also apparent. Brazil is known for its complex licensing process and layered regulatory requirements, with international giants like bet365 and Betano already positioned. South Africa, with its mature gambling culture, faces intense customer acquisition competition among licensed operators. Previous attention by PASA's official website to the regulatory experience in Mpumalanga province also indicates that the fragmented regulation across South African provinces is not friendly to newcomers.

Meanwhile, DigiPlus has also completed the subscription of 1.6 billion Hong Kong dollars in convertible bonds issued by IEC—a strategic move interpreted by outsiders as "online feeding offline," attempting to bridge the gap between digital platforms and physical entertainment scenes, making the entire entertainment consumption loop run more smoothly. From a product perspective, DigiPlus launched financial management tools, in-app protection mechanisms, and an upgraded customer support system in 2025—standard moves for responsible gambling that are prerequisites for going international in a tightening regulatory environment, not just bonus points.

The report card looks good, and the ambitions are not small, but the other side of the expansion story also deserves attention. The regulatory intensity on online entertainment, cross-border payments, and compliance reviews in the Philippines and Southeast Asia is systematically increasing. After entering Brazil and South Africa, DigiPlus will face not only the new market's licensing and customer acquisition costs but also more complex exchange rate fluctuations, cultural differences, and public opinion risks. Whether it can transition from a "local winner in the Philippines" to a "cross-continental player" depends on the actual speed of establishment in Brazil and South Africa over the next few quarters—and whether these markets are willing to give it a gradual adaptation period.
