The Philippine National Police (PNP) is intensifying its crackdown on employees working two jobs, especially those working for Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil has authorized the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) and the Interior Department (IAS) to conduct a thorough personnel audit in response to the earlier scandal.
The crackdown followed the arrest of two Special Operations Forces commandos involved in the clashes with POGO and Sergeant Rafael Boco, who also doubled as a security guard. Marbil also emphasized the importance of the principle of command responsibility, whereby immediate commanders will be held accountable for the actions of their subordinates.
Police officers are not allowed to do other work while on duty, with the exception of licensed doctors and lawyers.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, a vocal opponent of POGO operators, raised safety and regulatory issues, citing the lack of background checks on operators and employees.
